Message from the Principal Print E-mail

Welcome to Titahi Bay School. Children, parents/caregivers and teachers are all very proud of our fine record in academic, sporting and cultural activities.

Our philosophy is simple. Our first priority is to give children a solid grounding in the basic literacy, oracy and numeracy skills. Our second priority is to build on that foundation, providing activities that will stimulate children.

We want our children to leave with:
  • a positive attitude about themselves and others
  • good interpersonal skills
  • the ability to operate successfully in the modern world

We welcome, encourage and expect parents/caregiver participation in all areas of school life.  There needs to be a true partnership between home and school. Research shows that when parents and caregivers take an active and supportive interest in the school, children develop positive attitudes to learning and achieve accordingly. Here is an outline of what partnership involves.

Parents/caregivers are responsible for ensuring that their child comes to school:

  • regularly
  • appropriately dressed
  • well fed
  • after adequate sleep
  • in good health
  • with all the equipment they need e.g. pencil, books etc.
  • homework set has been done

The school and teachers are responsible for ensuring that each child:

  • is taught at their appropriate level
  • makes progress appropriate to their age and ability
  • works in a stimulating environment
  • is listened to
  • is adequately supervised and cared for during their time at the school
  • has access to a dental clinic
  • is referred to appropriate support agencies whenever necessary e.g. special education, health nurses, etc.
